Workshop with Roman Minaev

This workshop is held in collaboration with Rodchenko School of Photography and Multimedia Art in Moscow. With an emphasis on the discourse on material/immaterial art practice, the workshop participants will be producing collaborative artworks via the Internet.

In his presentation Øyvind Kolås will present various software projects he has created or been involved in, active and abandoned. He will discuss different cultural contexts of the projects and his motivation for developing them as part of his endeavours as a digital media tool craftsman and artist.
Øyvind Kolås (born 1978) from Ørsta in Sunnmøre has been exploring computer graphics since his early teens. From 1998-1999 he attended Strykejernet Art School. At Gjøvik University College (2000-2007) he became part of the academic staff two years after enrollment. Here he lectured computer-science and digital media technologies while participating in imaging and color science research. Since 2007 he has been working professionally with open-source based technologies in London, now as part of Intel Open Source Technology Centre Europe.
During the last fifteen years he has developed several media tools and software from scratch, in the fields of image processing, real time animation, video editing, user interfaces, machine vision and board game opponents.
Since 2006 he has been the core contributor to GEGL, GIMPs new graphics rendering engine. He has presented his software at free and open source conferences such as Libre Graphics Meeting, Piksel, GUADEC, FOSDEM. His visual and interactive work has been shown at Odyssey ‘95, Eidsvoll, Indie Music Video Festival tour 2003, Galleri Barbara Hansen, Oslo 2005, SIGGRAPH Art Gallery, Boston 2006, Digitale Spor, Bergen 2007.
