About Atelier Nord ANX
Production and exhibtion space for media art.
Olav Ryes Plass 2 (entrance Sofienberggt.)
Atelier Nord ANX (pronounced Atelier Nord annex) is Atelier Nord’s exhibition space in Olav Ryes Plass 2 on Grünerløkka. We continually present a rotating programme of exhibitions, screenings, self-initiated projects and collaborations with national and international artists, institutions and galleries.
Atelier Nord ANX is also the first exhibition space for media art in Norway. We aim to contribute to collaborative production and a better understanding of the rapid development taking place in the media landscape. We also wish to stimulate the creation of new experiences and expressions as well as contribute towards an increase in public presentation and debate.
With 18 studios, a guest appartment and an exhibition space The Municipal Department of Culture in Oslo has established an important arena for culture at Olaf Ryes plass 2. Atelier Nord administrates the exhition space on the ground floor and The Municipal Department of Culture has also made it possible to have two guest studios available. The building has a long history, and has housed a school, church congregation, youth shelter, women’s shelter and squatters. During the war, the building was used as a propaganda senter by occupation authorities. The building was rehabilitated from 2009 to 2011 for approximately 8 million NOK on the initiative of the artist group UV5/ORP2 and the city council at the time. Atelier Nord was the winner of a concept competition the same year that the rehabilitation was completed.
