Jørn Tore Egseth: Noise Mold
Location: Atelier Nord ANX, Olaf Ryes plass 2 (entrance Sofienberggt.)
Dates: 07.10 – 09.10.16.
Exhibition opening on Thursday 6th of October, 7PM.
With the sound installation Noise Mold, Jørn Tore Egseth explores the possibility of using noise as an acoustic mold.
The gallery space is filled with radio static. The noise consists of all possible random frequencies, representing an acoustic zero point. Microphones pick up the other noise in the gallery space, such as conversations and movement. With the help of constant frequency analysis the sound that is picked up by the microphones is subtracted from the radio noise, so that the sound of visitors creates a cavity in the noise.
To speak of sound in sculptural terms is a frequent occurrence when we talk about sound in spatial terms. Sound has volume and texture, and can blanket or fill a room. The installation combines elements of control and chaos, where intentional and non-intentional actions form the soundscape that at any given moment fills the room.
Jørn Tore Egseth attended the Art Academy in Trondheim and currently lives and works in Oslo. Egseth works with installation and sculpture, often in relation to sound.
