Open Call 2019 – The Jury’s Decision

Open Call 2019

The jury has completed its work on this year’s open call for Atelier Nord ANX. The aim of the open call is to provide an opportunity to show experimental, technology-driven art project for artists living in Norway. Our open call allows us to reach artists that we wouldn’t have come into contact with through other means. This year we received a total of 56 applications, many of which came from well-qualified artists.

We would like to extend our thanks to all the applicants. The number and quality of applications allowed for exciting and varied discussions among the jury (Ida Lykken Ghosh, Mattias Härenstam, Synne Tollerud Bull and Nicholas Norton). After careful consideration of every application individually and collectively, the jury has decided to award the exhibition slot to Victoria Durnak

Durnak’s project is a subtle investigation of how the internet participates in creating and shaping social relations. The Jury was especially interested in how the project connects the everyday problems of the nuclear family to contemporary issues such as surveillance and rampant consumerism. The project also convinced the jury with its awareness of art historical precedents and literary tropes. Durnak has an interdisciplinary approach to materials and traditions. Her project combines several fields of study in a fresh and untraditional aesthetic which deals with how everyday life is affected by the intricate operations of digital media.

Victoria Durnak (f. 1989) is a Norwegian writer and artist living in Oslo. Solo exhibitions include «Secret Friend» Hordaland Kunstsenter in Bergen (2016), «The Mistress Dispeller» Podium in Oslo (2017), and «Core» Studio17 in Stavanger (2018). She has published two collections of poetry and three novels, all with Flamme Forlag. Her most recent novel is «Sentret» from 2017.

The number of interesting applications has convinced Atelier Nord of the importance of a yearly open call. This is the third time we have organized an open call as part of the Atelier Nord ANX exhibition programme.
