Kjetil Skøien – Performative Video: Live Actions Made for the Camera
Welcome to exhibition opening Thursday 26th of February 7PM.

Atelier Nord is pleased to present Kjetil Skøien’s exhibiton Performative Video: Live Actions Made for the Camera at Atelier Nord ANX. Skøien will show 3 performance videos, all performances developed specifically for the video medium.
Inn In the End the Day Came to the Dark Room Skøien explores an abandoned Soviet-era cultural centre in Riga. The video is structured like a memory, a trip back in time to when there where still activities in the building. Hands on Table consists of a choreographed sequence, where Skøien’s arms and legs create a musical and physical performance by hitting a table, limbs seemingly acting autonomously. The third and last video, For Dance Alone, shows a group of mentally and physically handicapped people dancing and moving together in the north of Finland. They explore their physical, bodily possibilities with devotion and sincerity.
KJETIL SKØIEN (b. 1952) attended The Norwegian National Academy of Fine Arts. He distinguished himself as a performance artist in the 1980s, but has also had extensive experience directing theater. He was among the first to use video as an active element in theater productions, in the play Vårnatt (Spring Night). Skøien has had solo exhibitions at Kunstnernes Hus and The Stenersen Museum. He has participated in several group exhibitions, such as The Museum of Contemporary Art Oslo, Lillehammer Art Museum, Sørlandets Kunstmuseum ICA-London, Charlottenborg Kunsthal-København, Malmø Konsthall og Museum Moderner Kunst-Wien. Skøien is a recipient of the State guaranteed income for artists and has curated exhibitions at the Norwegian National Museum for Art, Architecture and Design, The Stenersen Museum, Gallery F15, Kunstnernes Hus and UKS.
