Atelier Nord mottok i alt 75 søknader til Open Call for 2024 – en økning på 24 fra i fjor. Etter grundig gjennomgang av samtlige søknader valgte juryen Qi Tans utstillingsforslag. Prosjektet til Qi kretser rundt en serie 3D-animerte videoer som tar for seg egenskapene til den fargesterke plantefloraen på ulike planeter i et forestilt, sci-fi inspirert univers bundet av andre fysiske lover enn i vårt eget. 

Juryen var spesielt begeistret for arbeidenes drømmeaktige estetikk og Qis evne til å skape en mytologisk og spirituell reise for betrakteren i hennes visuelt særegne verden. Videoene har en beroligende effekt og knytter an praksiser som benyttes til å håndtere angst og usikkerhet som mindfullness, drømmedagbøker og meditasjon. Atelier Nord og jurymedlemmene vil gjerne rette en stor takk til alle som søkte. Vi mottok mange spennende søknader, noe som førte til varierte diskusjoner blant jurymedlemmene.

Qi Tan (f. 1994 i Kina) bor i Oslo og arbeider hovedsakelig med video, installasjon og tegning. Hun har enmastergrad fra Kunsthøgskolen i Oslo. Hun har hatt separatutstilling ved Studio 17 i Stavanger (2021) og debuterte ved Høstutstillingen i 2022. Hun deltok også i gruppeutstillingen Utopia ved Tegnerforbundet i Oslo høsten 2022.

Juryen for denne Open Call-runden var Synne Tollerud Bull, Ida Lykken Ghosh, Admir Korjenic-Hansen og Nicholas Norton.

Atelier Nord received a total of 75 applications for our 2024 Open Call – an increase of 24 from last year. After a thorough review of all applications, the jury selected Qi Tan’s proposal. Qi’s project revolves around a series of 3D animated videos that deal with the properties of colorful plants on various planets in an imagined, sci-fi inspired universe bound by different physical laws than our own.

The jury was particularly enthusiastic about the dreamlike quality of Qi’s work and her ability to create an aesthetically appealing mythological and spiritual journey through an alien world. The videos have a calming and mediative effect and could be said to relate to techniques that people use to deal with anxiety such as mindfulness, dream diaries and meditation. Atelier Nord and the jury members would like to thank everyone who applied.  We received many exciting applications, leading to varied discussions among the jury members.

Qi Tan (b. 1994 in China) lives in Oslo and mainly works with video, installation, and drawing. She holds a master’s degree from the Oslo National Academy of the Arts. Recent exhibitions include a solo show at Studio 17 in Stavanger (2021) and participation in Høstutstillingen (2022). Works by Qi were also included in the group exhibition Utopia at Tegnerforbundet in Oslo (2022).
