Som avslutning på IT’S ALL ABOUT THE SIGNAL presenter Atelier Nord et utvalg av Steina og Woody Vasulkas arbeider på Cinemateket i samarbeid med The Dream That Kicks. Atelier Nords kunstneriske leder Ivar Smedstad har gjort et utvalg fra Steina og Woody Vasulkas omfattende produksjon, som spenner mer enn 50 år.

Steina (f. 1940, Reykjavík) og Woody Vasulka (f. 1937, Brno) er sentrale foregangsskikkelser i videokunstens historie. De var blant de første kunstnerne som interesserte seg for video på slutten av 1960-tallet, da det første kommersielle videokameraet (Sony Portapak) ble tilgjengelig. Produksjonen deres – sammen og individuelt – spenner analoge- og digitale undersøkelser av videosignalets materialitet, maskinoptiske installasjoner og performancearbeider.

The Dream That Kicks er Cinematekets visningskonsept for kunstfilm, avantgardefilm og videokunst, kuratert av Greg Pope – kunstner, foreleser på KHIO og Cinemateket-maskinist.

Atelier Nord has the pleasure of presenting a selection of work by Steina and Woody Vasulka at Cinemateket in collaboration with The Dream That Kicks. The screening marks the closing of the exhibition IT’S ALL ABOUT THE SIGNAL, held at Atelier Nord ANX. Atelier Nord’s Artistic Director Ivar Smedstad has made a selection from Steina and Woody Vasulka’s extensive body of work, which spans more than 50 years.

Steina (b. 1940, Reykjavík) and Woody Vasulka (b. 1937, Brno) are central figures in the history of video art. They were among the first artists to show interest in the medium in the late 1960s, when the first commercial video camera (Sony Portapak) became available. Their body of work – together and individually – spans analogue and digital investigations of the materiality of the video signal, optical machine installations and performance.
