Welcome to an artist talk between Espen Sommer Eide and Neal Cahoon. The conversation takes as its starting point Espen Sommer Eide’s exhibition Wild Music Reserve (Pasvik), which is on view at Atelier Nord from November 7 to December 14.

Espen Sommer Eide is a composer and artist based in Oslo. In addition to working with installation and performance, he has had a long career in experimental electronic music, emerging from the techno scene in Tromsø in the late 1990s. Eide has been involved in numerous collaborative projects within the performing arts and has been a member of Verdensteatret since 2010. His works have been exhibited at venues including Bergen Assembly, Henie Onstad Kunstsenter (Bærum), Kode (Bergen), Sami Center for Contemporary Art (Karasjok), Stedelijk Museum (Amsterdam), Mutek Festival (Montréal, Canada), GRM – Groupe de Recherches Musicales (Paris), Performa Festival (New York), and Museo Reina Sofía (Madrid).

Neal Cahoon is a researcher and practitioner working across the fields of poetics, listening, publishing, and curatorial practice. He holds a PhD from the University of Roehampton in London and is currently a researcher at the University of Oulu in Finland. He was previously co-curator of LIAF 2019 and The Kelp Congress together with Hilde Methi, Karolin Tampere, and Torill Østby Haaland. From 2020 to 2023, he served as Artistic Director at Pikene på Broen in Kirkenes, where he led three editions of the Barents Spektakel festival, the BAR International residency program, and initiated the project “det gode liv” in 2021, which concluded with an exhibition for the Arctic Arts Festival in 2023.
