About the workshop
This workshop is for artists who would like an introduction to using the Video Art Archive portal for registering artworks and uploading files. The Video Art Archive is a reference archive that relies on artists contributing by uploading and registering information about their own works. Atelier Nord, together with PNEK, initiated the Video Art Archive, and remained involved until the archive was transferred to the National Museum in 2021.
Although the Video Art Archive is not a platform for public dissemination, it can contribute to increased visibility and new opportunities for artists through screenings and exhibitions at galleries, museums, and other venues. The Video Art Archive offers artists the opportunity to securely store information about their works and files, helping to preserve video works for future generations.
During the workshop, we will look at information and metadata related to artworks and how files are uploaded. Participants will be introduced to how the archive is structured and how it is used by curators, art historians, and researchers. There will also be an opportunity to ask questions about rights and related matters.
The workshop will be led by Håvard Oppøyen, who is responsible for the Video Art Archive at the National Museum’s Library and Archive. Håvard is a film archivist and has previously worked at the Norwegian Film Institute and the National Library of Norway, where he has worked with the preservation, restoration, and dissemination of film.
