As part of the program for the exhibition BEND IT, Café Mir and Atelier Nord are hosting a concert with Joe Winter, Legs 11 and some of the side-projects that have sprung out of Legs 11. The concert takes place on the same evening as the exhibition opening, making it possible to combine the two events.
BEND IT is a celebration of queer art in the form of exhibition and concerts that encompass visual art, performance and music. By queer art we mean art that challenges norms related to gender, sexuality and identity.
London-born singer and producer Joe Winter channels a diversity of influences to make music that adheres to no genre in particular. Their creative process passes beyond just the music itself, into film, which they themselves direct and edit to both deepen and clarify music’s meaning.
Legs 11 have been part of the Oslo underground music scene for more than 15 years, playing a catchy mixture of synth pop and house music. Released lots of eps, two LP’s, a compilation album and thet are soon ready with a new album, set to be released the coming fall.
Florence of Alabia is an electro pop duo who debuted in March. They’ll bring a bunch of fresh songs from their writing cabin deep in the woods outside of Oslo. Like any youngster, they’re still exploring their identity, but the music can be described as a dash of 2000s disco, some underground divaness, a hint of epic and melancholic sounds and an 80s high school dance sprinkled with some uncompromising nightclub grooves.
Sommerfeldt & Sigmund Floyd. Sommerfeldt is known for his previous nu-disco escapades as part of the monikers «Sommerstad» and «De Fantastiske To». Melodic house music at its finest, with dreamy vocals by Sigmund Floyd, known from legendary dub-disco orchestra “Palace of Pleasure” and Legs 11. Prepare to feel loved!
Marius Sommerfeldt will be DJ’ing after the concerts.
