Atelier Nord mottok i alt 52 søknader til Open Call for 2023. Etter en grundig gjennomgang valgte juryen Fatou Åsbakks prosjekt, en utstilling bestående av nye og eksisterende filmer.

Åsbakks idiosynkratiske tilnærming til essayfilmen vikler sammen fortellinger fra eget liv – ofte reiseskildringer – med referanser til Europas litterære og kunstneriske kanon. Juryen opplever at Åsbakks filmer engasjerer fordi de vender den kanoniserte kunsten mot livet som en linse, ofte med humor og livsgnist. Slik spør filmene hva slags utbytte man høster gjennom å leve et kulturelt engasjert og skapende liv.

Atelier Nord vil gjerne rette en stor takk til alle som søkte. Det var mange gode søknader, noe som førte til varierte og interessante diskusjoner blant jurymedlemmene.

Fatou Åsbakk bor og jobber i Oslo. Hun ble uteksaminert fra Kunstakademiet i Oslo i 2019. Tidligere soloutstillinger inkluderer Prosessen er for lett sa Lasse, du må kalle det noe annet på Kunsthall Oslo i 2022 og Etyder på Destiny’s i 2018. Åsbakks roman Været og Uvirksomheten ble utgitt av Kolon forlag i 2020.

Jurymedlemmene var Synne Tollerud Bull, Ida Lykken Ghosh, Admir Korjenic-Hansen og Nicholas Norton.

Each year we reserve one slot in Atelier Nord’s programme for an Open Call where applications are considered by a jury. Last year this process resulted in Yafei Qis show Hours and Hours, on view in our gallery until 20.02.22. Previous Open Call projects include exhibitions by GERANIUM DREAM (Elise Mcmillan), Kim Hankyul and Victoria Durnak.

About Atelier Nord
Atelier Nord is a platform for contemporary art with a focus on media art. We produce exhibitions, screenings, performances and workshops for our gallery space located in the Grünerløkka neighbourhood of Oslo.

Who can apply?
Proposals should be within the fields of media-, sound- or video art. Applicants must live or work in Norway. Projects that haven’t been exhibited previously will be prioritised.

What should the application contain? 
• Short project description (max 3000 characters)
• CV
• Documentation of previous work (PDF, images, links to websites)
• Simple production budget and cost estimate.

Budget
Atelier Nord can offer an artist fee of NOK 10 000,- as well as a budget for production costs (including shipping) up to NOK 10 000,-. Applicants will be able to apply for additional funding through Arts Council Norway and other support schemes.

Deadline
The deadline for applications is the 1st of March 2022, 13.00. The exhibition will be held in 2023. The jury is expected to have reached a decision by early in May.
