Open Call 2023
The Jury's Decision
Atelier Nord received a total of 52 applications for our 2023 Open Call. After a thorough review, the jury selected Fatou Åsbakk’s project, an exhibition consisting of new and existing films.
Åsbakk’s idiosyncratic approach to the essay film wraps together stories from her own life – often travelogues – with references to Europe’s literary and artistic canon. The jury finds Åsbakk’s films especially engaging because they employ the artistic cannon as a lens – turning art towards life – often with plenty of humor and curiosity. As such the films could be said to explore what kind of benefits one reaps from choosing to live a culturally engaged and creative life.
Atelier Nord would like to thank everyone who applied. There were many good applications leading to varied and interesting discussions among the jurors.
Fatou Åsbakk lives and works in Oslo. She graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts in Oslo in 2019.
